The Lions Clubs International Peace Poster Contest has been conducted since 1988 in local schools by encouraging young people of the ages 11, 12 and 13 years to artistically express their visions of peace.Promoting the Arts
A variety of mediums including charcoal, crayon, pencil and paint can be used to create a unique work that expresses the young artist’s life experiences and culture and spark their imagination around a common theme of Peace. This year’s theme is “Children know Peace”Overall Judging
Each poster is judged on originality, artistic merit and expression of the theme. Each final winner from each participating school will be endorsed to the Lions District Finals where one entry is chosen to progress to national level. The National Winner will progress to and attend the International Competition which will be judged in the USA. At the International level judges from the arts, peace, youth and media select one grand prize winner and 23 merit award winners.Local Judging
Each school will select their top 10 entries using the above criteria of originality, artistic merit and expression of the theme. These entries will be displayed during the Thirroul Seaside and Arts Festival from Friday 30th March to Sunday 1st April 2012..
Entries displayed during the Festival will be judged by a panel selected by the Austinmer/Thirroul Lions Club Inc. Subject to sponsorships each participating school will have an overall winner selected from their entries. That winner will receive an appropriate prize. A “Viewers Choice” Entry will also be selected from the Festival display. Each student will receive a Certificate of Participation.
Peach Poster Display
Over 90 posters from participating schools will be on display on SATURDAY March 31 at St Michaels Catholic School, McCarthy Centre, from 9.00am to 4.30pm. Gold Coin donation as entry.Winners from each of the participating schools will be judged and announce on Saturday. A "Viewers Choice" Award will also be announced at 3.30pm Saturday 31st Marchl, 2012. The 9 winning entries will be submitted by the Austinmer/Thirroul Lions Club to the District level of Lions Clubs for entry into judging along with others received from other Lions Clubs.

The estimated number of entries being already prepared by 11, 12 and 13 years of age Students in these Schools is well over 350 posters. Schools will select their best 10 entries for display on 2nd April.
Parents, friends, teachers, grandparents and relatives are all welcomed to come and see the range of artwork which depicts these students vision of the Contest Theme of "CHILDREN KNOW PEACE".
Contest Rules and Conditions
The Contest is open to students who will be 11, 12 or 13 years of age on November 15th 2011.The size of the art work can range from 33cm by 50cm and NO LARGER than 50cm by 60cm. Do NOT mat or frame artwork.
Only one entry per student and each entry must be the work of ONLY one student
All artwork must be the individual student’s original creation – duplications are not accepted.
All media are accepted. NOTE: Chalk, charcoal and pastel entries should be sealed with a fixative spray to prevent smearing. DO NOT laminate entries.
Three dimensional entries will NOT be accepted – nothing may be glued, stapled or attached to the artwork
The use of lettering or numbering on the front of the poster, in any language, is NOT ALLOWED. The artist’s signature or initials MUST be written on the back of the poster. Each School age group entries must be “flat packed” separately (NOT FOLDED). A separate list of students’ names and their signature must be included with each pack.
Artwork should be done on a flexible material so it can be rolled for shipping in a mailing tube. DO NOT fold poster.
Each student will be awarded a Certificate of Participation.
School entries to be available for collection on 23rd March 2012.
The Lions Club of Austinmer/Thirroul Inc will return to each school those entries that do not progress to the Lions District level of the Contest.
Please ensure that a correlated list of Posters and students name and signature is provided to enable correct identification of each poster to each student. There can be NO markings (signatures or initials only on back) on each poster.
Lions International Rules
Participants accept all responsibility for late, lost, misdirected or illegible entries. Entries sent with insufficient postage will be disqualified. Lions Clubs International is not responsible for entries damaged, destroyed or lost during the judging process. Entries cannot be acknowledged or returned; they become the property of Lions Clubs International upon receipt. Peace Poster Contest images cannot be used without written permission from Lions Clubs International.In consideration for the opportunity to enter the Peace Poster Contest, participants agree to allow Lions Clubs International to use their names and photographs for promotional and publicity purposes. In addition the international grand price winner, two family members (one being a parent or legal guardian) and the sponsoring Club President or club member (as designated by the sponsoring Club President) are required to attend the award ceremony at Lions Day with the United Nations in New York City, New York, USA (subject to change). An international grand prize winner is not eligible to receive subsequent prices in Peace Poster contests sponsored by Lions Clubs International. By entering, participants agree to be bound by these rules and the decisions of the judges and Lions Club International.
Lions Clubs International may cancel the contest without notice at any time. The contest is void where prohibited, taxed or restricted by law.
